Description from the seller
Larousse Encyclopedic Set in six volumes, published between 1922 and 1927, devoted to the natural sciences: The Air, The Sky, The Earth, The Sea, The Animals and The Plants. Richly illustrated with photographs, drawings, maps, diagrams and color plates, these works present the scientific knowledge of the interwar period in a form that is both educational and decorative, with gilded titles. A sought-after collection for the quality of its presentation, its iconography and its historical interest.
Binding: publisher's green cloth-covered boards, genuine brown morocco spine, richly stamped with a vegetal motif, gilded title on the front board and on the spine. Format: large quarto. Illustrations: very numerous black-and-white illustrations, documentary photographs, scientific diagrams, text-telling plates and color plates (autochromes). An important illustrated encyclopedic work devoted to the sea and the maritime world: oceanography, plankton and marine life, undersea geology, navigation, ports and harbors, naval and civilian maritime domains, fishing, shipwrecks, rescues and the life of sailors. The iconography is particularly rich and varied, mixing period photographs, scientific documents and color plates, characteristic of the great Larousse publications of the interwar period. Solid binding. Genuine morocco spine, clearly readable decoration."
