“In this series, the Marche-based master moves away from realistic documentation to reach a form of lyrical abstraction, where the boundary between sky and earth becomes almost indistinguishable. For Giacomelli, the series of the “Gabbiani” (Seagulls) represented a moment of inner reflection. The flight of the birds becomes a metaphor of Freedom and Solitude; the chaotic yet harmonious movement of the flock reflects the author’s restlessness and poetic quest; one sees the Transfiguration of the Landscape: As in his photos of plowed fields, here too Giacomelli “re-reads” nature, transforming a common event into a symbolic and timeless image.
