Description from the seller
Antoni Tàpies – Deux Croix Blanches, 1984
Original aquatint in several inks on Auvergne-Richard paper H.C. by the Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies (1923–2012), one of the fundamental figures of postwar European art and an international reference in informalism and material painting.
The work presents one of the recurring motifs in Tàpies's visual language: the cross, a symbol that the artist frequently used as a plastic and conceptual element within his exploration of sign, matter, and spirituality.
The etching was edited by Galerie Lelong, Paris, and printed at the workshop of Joan Barbarà in Barcelona, one of the most important printers of contemporary graphics and a regular collaborator of artists such as Miró, Tàpies, or Chillida.
The edition is signed and hand-numbered by the artist. The edition consists of 50 copies, plus 8 proofs H.C. (hors commerce) and some additional unnumbered H.C. proofs.
The work is documented in the catalogue raisonné of Antoni Tàpies’s graphic work, Volume III, page 180, number 946.
