About
Lothar Quinte (1923–2000) was a German painter and graphic artist and counts among the significant representatives of concrete art and Op Art in Germany. His work is characterized by a consistent engagement with color, form, rhythm and visual perception. After initially figurative works, Quinte developed from the 1950s a strictly abstract pictorial language that made him internationally known.
Especially his Op Art pictures are characterized by precise geometric structures, modular color systems and optical motion effects. With serial compositions, color gradients and dynamic repetitions, Quinte created visual oscillations that actively involve the viewer in perception. His works move at the intersection of painting, graphics and visual research.
Lothar Quinte’s works have been shown in numerous museums, international exhibitions and collections and are regarded as an important contribution to the development of European Op Art and concrete-constructive art of the 20th century.
