Forest and River in Autumn, an oil painting from 19th‑century Germany by Werner (XX), depicting a landscape and sold with frame.
Description from the seller
A beautifully atmospheric oil on canvas depicting an autumn wetland landscape. The composition features birch trees with red and golden foliage, dense dark woodland, a calm river or pond reflecting the light, reed beds in the foreground, and farm buildings visible in the misty distance. The dramatic stormy sky, rendered with confident, expressive brushwork, gives the scene a moody and melancholic quality characteristic of the Belgian and Dutch Realist tradition.
The painting is signed “WERNER” in the lower left corner. The style and palette are consistent with late 19th to early 20th century European landscape painting, with strong Realist influences in its detailed naturalistic rendering of trees, water, and sky.
The canvas shows natural signs of age including some minor paint lifting in areas, which is consistent with its estimated period. The painting is presented in its original dark wooden frame with a linen inner border.
