Description from the seller
Antón PATIÑO PÉREZ (1957-) – “Ciudad” (1987)
OIL ON CANVAS – MUSEUM FORMAT (146 x 114 cm) – ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM
The Energy of Matter: A Radical Urban Vision
Painted in 1987, “Ciudad” (City) is an emblematic work by Antón Patiño, a leading figure of the Atlántica movement. In this monumental composition, the artist explores the tension between urban structure and raw matter. The city here is deconstructed, reduced to an architecture of powerful black lines crushed beneath strata of ochre pigments and bursts of light.
Patiño uses a rich, granular texture, typical of his exploration of identity and matter. The city is no longer a simple geographical representation, but a field of psychological and material forces of rare intensity.
WHY THIS WORK IS A MAJOR COLLECTOR PIECE
Historical Period (1987): The 1980s mark the apex of Patiño's international recognition. Works from this period are the most sought after by collectors and appear in prestigious institutions (Museo Reina Sofía, CGAC).
Imposing Format (146 x 114 cm): A “museum” size that has a monumental visual presence. It is a centerpiece capable of defining the atmosphere of a space on its own.
Total Authenticity: Oil on canvas signed, titled and dated by the artist on the reverse (“Antón Patiño - "CIUDAD" - 1987”).
Condition: * Surface: Excellent conservation of the paint layer, preserving all the original texture and impasto.
Support: Original canvas on its wooden stretcher. Impeccable tension.
Framing: Presented in a slim natural wood frame that underscores the contemporary nature of the work.
