Vhils, Layers (Unique Piece), a 70 × 50 cm Giclée from Portugal, 2025, an original 1/1 edition, hand-signed and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Unique and original piece 1/1
Artwork in excellent condition (See photos). Kept flat in a professional binder.
The image shows a partially visible face, built from a play of torn, ripped, and superimposed layers, revealing different layers of colors and textures. This aesthetic of tearing directly recalls the artist's work on urban walls, where he “drills” into the material to reveal what lies beneath.
The black background intentionally presents subtle variations in texture and density, with faint marks visible. This is not a flaw but a deliberate artistic choice, consistent with the raw, stratified aesthetics characteristic of Vhils's work. This finish enhances the sense of matter and echoes the altered urban surfaces that inspire the artist.
Dimensions of the work: 70 x 50 cm
LAYERS is a collection of generative NFTs based on the work that Vhils develops with physical billboards. Uniting the worlds of digital and physical art, this project reveals the subtleties of the artist's creative universe by reproducing the physical practice on the blockchain.
This artwork is an original physical piece 1/1 resulting from a process of converting an NFT into a physical work, created by the artist and accessible only to top collectors.
The work will be protected in kraft paper, inserted into a rigid tube, and then shipped in a reinforced cardboard box.
Vhils, the Portuguese artist born Alexandre Farto, is internationally recognized for his unique technique of destruction-based creation. Using chisels, explosives, drills, or acids, he sculpts directly into walls to reveal deeply human portraits. His work explores the impact of urban growth, the erasure of identities, and memory imprinted in matter.
Vhils aligns with engaged artists like Shepard Fairey, whose graphic aesthetic questions the media power. His conceptual approach aligns with that of Banksy, master of social satire. The lineage with Blek le Rat, pioneer of stenciling, is evident in his relation to the city. He also shares the figurative sensibility of Jef Aérosol, focused on the human. Finally, his mural universe resonates with PichiAvo, a duo blending classical myth and graffiti.
His work also speaks to major figures such as JR, Invader, D*Face, C215, JonOne, Sandra Chevrier, Snik, Mr Brainwash, Murakami, Jeff Koons, or KAWS, each pushing the boundaries of street art and contemporary visual culture.
