Zuiders terras, an oil painting from Belgium dating to 1930–1940 (1939), in the Post-Impressionist style, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Raphaël Achille Gaston Gustave Damman (1882-1958) was a painter-decorator.
The family settled in Brussels around 1883-84. After the father's death, the widow, Louise Deryke, opens a shop selling items for painters at No. 71 Berckmansstraat. Raphaël was already working as a painter at that time.
In 1900 he married Juliette Benoit.
Between 1902 and 1904 he attended the ateliers for antique art and ornamental composition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Adolphe Crespin was there his teacher.
He also produced several murals in the Art Deco period in Brussels.
This painting is an oil-on-canvas work, signed and dated 1939, and depicts a sun-drenched terrace. Beautifully colorful work with a fitting original frame. All in excellent condition.
The work is carefully packed and shipped insured.
