Description from the seller
Andréas Lang (Zweibrücken, 1965 - present)
Photographer and videographer and German who resided in Paris from 1990 to 2001, his early work focused on landscape and nature, later turning to historical and mythological investigations in different colonial conflict zones such as Egypt, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, among others. He also has multiple film projects.
In 2009, he held a show called Sous Les Ogives (Under the Ogives), collaborating with Joan Barbarà's Workshop. In it, he presents nine photogravures (polymer aquatint), together with writings from the third book of Victor Hugo's Notre-Dame de Paris. This photogravure is the fourth. Along with the text, there is an aesthetic tension, since Victor Hugo mentions the erasure of old Paris, describing restorations as "lead putties," and also speaks of the optical effect of the ancient stained glass windows, which, as light passes through, created an atmosphere of mystery and divine light. This photogravure shows the Sacré-Cœur with cryptic and imposing illumination, representing the triumph of the new architecture and demonstrating that one can also experience that mysticism and divine light through it.
Part of the eponymous photobook. The artist signed only the first page; this photogravure is from the same book and therefore from that edition.
Edition 17/50. Printed by Tbe Barcelona (Tristan Barbarà editions).
