Les Fleurs du Bistrot, oil on canvas by Colette Chasseigneaux (1925–2017), created in 1956 in France, an original framed work signed by hand, 92 x 70 cm, weighing 3.0 kg and sold with frame by Galería.
Description from the seller
- Oil on burlap canvas. Original fabric. Signed and dated by hand.
- Colette Chasseigneaux rises as the last heroic sigh of the indomitable Montparnasse, a legendary figure who embodied, together with her sister Solange, the thirst for freedom of the “warm hours” of the École de Paris. As muse and painter, her life was a testament to bohemian resistance at 8 rue de la Grande Chaumière, that historic refuge where the echo of Modigliani and Gauguin still vibrated. Final companion of Auguste Clergé, the great dynamizer of the “Montparnots,” Colette kept an atmosphere of antique authenticity in a studio that, frozen in time beneath the large skylight, preserved the aroma of the Vavin crossroads and the pulse of modernity. Her passing in 2017 closed one of the purest pages of immortal Paris, of bistros and the true “pâte d’humanité,” leaving behind a body of work that is not merely painting but the indelible trace of a generation that made art its only homeland and the neighborhood its spiritual center of the world.
- Image dimensions without frame: 60 x 81 cm / 70 x 92 cm with exclusive custom frame.
