Description from the seller

"Pollywog" is a component of the "Jelly" series by photographer Ursula van de Bunte. It concerns a print on Hahnemuhle Baryta treated with Renaissance wax. The print is mounted on aluminum and the size is 25x25, and it is the second edition of 25.
The story of the Jellys is a tale of images full of gentleness, vulnerability, and femininity. These self-made creations consist 90% of water, just like we humans. In these translucent forms, the photographer processes unexpected elements. Ursula’s Jellys symbolize that delicate vulnerability, but they also symbolize the softness and strength of the woman. The organic shapes of the ‘appealing desserts’ reflect the natural beauty and cuddliness of the female body. Transparent and pure, yet also unfathomable because you don’t know what is happening inside. Ursula works with the latest Hasselblad and has her studio in a monumental building in the Hanseatic city of Kampen."

Seller's Story

Passionate, sensitive and with an eye for detail, light and color, would be a nice description of Ursula's approach. She is perfectionistic, enthusiastic and diligent; she will only be satisfied when the well-known WOW factor has been achieved. With her artworks she aims to bring her subjects forward in the purest possible way. Ursula transforms objects into powerful still lifes and the portraits are a reflection of a bygone era, where from time to time a splash of modern life is incorporated. Her work is unconventional and the use of light leans toward her sources of inspiration: the paintings of Jacques-Louis David, Rembrandt and Caravaggio. As a photographer Ursula also seeks to distinguish herself through diversity in her work, and beside individual creations she makes series, where multiple images tell one story. She is notably discovered with her intriguing, still lifes: the series Plastic Vegetables and the series House-4-Sale. These works have been awarded with various prizes, among them for the series “de 100 van Rooyackers.” Exhibitions: 2025 Academiehuis Zwolle 2024 Stedelijk museum Kampen 2023 ANNO museum Zwolle 2019 Fundatie Zwolle 2019 WG Kunst Amsterdam 2017 Loods 6 Amsterdam 2016 van Abbemuseum Publications: Stentor-Haarlems Dagblad, HP de Tijd, GUP New Dutch Photography Awards incl., 2017 Public Prize Photographic Design 2015 PIA d’or Award second prize Portrait 2021 Fine Art Photography Awards Portrait
