Description from the seller
Guy Vandenbranden (1926–2014) – untitled
1972
Color serigraphy on heavy art paper
48.7 × 48.7 cm
Edition: Epreuve d artiste
Publication: Grote Nationale Prijs Kunstzeefdruk
This serigraph from 1972 is a strong example of Guy Vandenbranden's constructivist and geometrically abstract visual language from the early 1970s. The composition is built up from sharply defined diagonal and cube-like volumes in contrasting fields of purple-gray, black, white, and intense orange. The subtle perspective shifts and the tight rhythm of the lines create a spatial tension that is characteristic of his oeuvre.
Vandenbranden was a central figure within Belgian geometric abstraction and active within the international networks of concrete and constructivist art. His work aligns with the tradition of Art Abstrait and postwar constructivism, and is housed in major public and private collections. Graphics from this period are particularly valued for their clear color handling and the technical perfection of the serigraphy.
This sheet was issued as part of the Grote Nationale Prijs Kunstzeefdruk, a high-quality Belgian print publication with a limited edition. The edition comprises only 60 copies; this is an artist's copy.
Lower-left corner signed in pencil “guy vandenbranden”.
Condition: In very good condition. Paper and colors fresh and even. No tears or restorations.
A representative and high-quality serigraphy by an important Belgian representative of geometric abstraction, with strong visual impact and solid collector value within postwar graphic art.
