Oswald Poreau, born in Schaerbeek on April 19, 1877, and died in Waterloo on December 5, 1955, is a Belgian realist painter of a luminous trend, engraver, and lithographer.

Training
Oswald Poreau, born in Schaerbeek on April 19, 1877, studied at the École moyenne de Schaerbeek and secondary at the Athénée royal de Bruxelles[2].

He completed his training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels in both painting and architecture. There, among painting masters from 1895 to 1900 were Joseph Stallaert and Joseph Quinaux, and for architecture Ernest Acker.

He obtained a painting and composition medal in 1900. In 1904, he exhibited at the Antwerp Triennial Salon[2].

He continued his training in Paris in 1905 and was active at Barbizon[3].

In 1915, he befriended painter Jules Merckaert.

He was first admitted as a corresponding member and then as a full member of the Academy of French Culture[2].

According to Georges Eekhoud, "the work of Oswald Poreau gives us at once an impression of power and harmonious progression"[4].
