Description from the seller
Guy Vandenbranden (1926–2014)
Abstract composition, 1976
Signed, dated and numbered (27/75)
A powerful and visually highly balanced work by the Belgian abstract master Guy Vandenbranden, a key figure within post-war geometric abstraction and closely connected with the tradition of constructivism and Op Art.
This 1976 composition shows Vandenbranden's characteristic play with strict geometry, sharp diagonals and a refined color harmony. The intense red background masterfully contrasts with the gold tint and the bright fields in green, black and light blue, creating a dynamic tension between stability and movement. The central form seems to tilt and float at the same time – a typical effect within his oeuvre where space and perspective are subtly manipulated.
The work is signed lower left in pencil, dated ('76) and numbered 27/75, indicating a limited edition and underscoring the collecting value.
Vandenbranden was a member of the avant-garde group Art Abstrait and exhibited internationally. His work is in major museum and private collections and remains highly sought after by lovers of geometric abstraction.
