Description from the seller

Jean-Jacques Massou - Harbour at Dusk 2
Digital print - Hand-signed - limited to 50 - no. 1 - 2009

I took this photo in July 2009 at dusk in the small fishing port of Port-en-Bessin with a Nikon D90. Originally the main color of the photo was blue, and I performed a partial desaturation, keeping only the color of the lights to obtain this particular mood.

This work was inspired by the atmosphere of a lively port at nightfall. The warm lights of the boats and buildings, contrasted with the dark sky and the desaturation of the rest of the image, create an almost magical and timeless atmosphere. The intention is to capture the life that throbs, even as the day ends, and to highlight the beauty of the reflections on the water.
I hope viewers will feel a certain nostalgia, an invitation to daydream. The scene is both peaceful and full of life, a paradox that I hope will provoke reflection on the passage of time and the beauty of fleeting moments. I wish for them to imagine themselves in this port, to hear the murmur of conversations and the lap of the water, to be carried away by the warm and festive ambiance.
The subject choice, a night port, was driven by the visual richness it offers: the lights, the reflections, the presence of boats and those human silhouettes suggesting activity. The chosen style, with this partial desaturation and these touches of vivid colors (mainly oranges and yellows), aims to accentuate the contrast between ambient darkness and the warmth of the lights, thereby creating a focal point and a dramatic atmosphere. The photographic medium is most appropriate to capture the reality of this scene and then stylize it, allowing play with lights and colors to exalt its poetry.

The print was produced on high-end Hahnemühle Photo Pearl paper measuring 48.3 x 32.9 cm, yielding a high-quality image. This work is sold with a certificate of authenticity bearing the edition number (limited to 50) and signed by the photographer.

Jean-Jacques Massou, self-taught photographer and passionate observer, mostly works with analog and digital photography, sometimes enriched by digital painting software. He elevates nature and landscapes through a meticulous aesthetic quest where composition, color poetry, and graphics mingle delicately in his images. His mixed technique, at the boundary between photography and painting, reveals the ephemeral beauty of the world’s hidden treasures. With emotion and humility, he communicates the wonder before the fragile splendor of nature and the urgency of its preservation.
