Description from the seller

A unique Kutani ware matcha tea bowl featuring hand-painted calligraphy on both the interior and exterior surfaces.

This piece stands out for its poetic and artistic expression, with flowing Japanese script elegantly integrated into the design. The combination of text and traditional Kutani decorative elements creates a harmonious balance between visual art and literary culture.

The exterior is adorned with seasonal floral motifs and refined gold accents, while the calligraphy panel adds a sense of narrative and depth. Inside the bowl, delicate inscriptions further enhance its contemplative character, making it especially appealing for tea ceremony use or as a display piece.

The foot of the bowl is impressed with the mark “Kutani” (九谷), confirming its origin as Kutani ware, one of Japan’s most celebrated ceramic traditions known for its vivid decoration and craftsmanship.

The original wooden box (tomobako) is included, bearing handwritten inscriptions, which suggest that the piece was carefully stored and appreciated. The presence of writing on both the bowl and the box adds cultural and collectible value.

This is a rare and expressive piece that goes beyond a typical tea bowl, offering both aesthetic beauty and a sense of story.
