Wintergezicht by Louis Apol, a 19th‑century Gouache landscape from the Netherlands, hand‑signed, in good condition, 25 × 28 cm including the frame, sold with an exclusive handmade frame and museum glass.
Description from the seller
A beautiful winter gouache by Louis Apol. Apol mainly devoted himself to painting snow-covered winter landscapes and belongs to the painters most strongly associated with this genre. His artistic talent was recognized at a young age.
He found his motifs largely in the surroundings of his birthplace, with the Haagse Bos forming an important source of inspiration. Because Apol rarely dated his works, his early oeuvre can be recognized by a finer brushstroke and a greater level of detail. His later work is characterized by a broader and looser touch, sometimes even somewhat rough in composition. In addition to predominantly warm white- and gray tones, he applied subtle color accents, giving his winter landscapes extra atmosphere and depth.
Dimensions: 13 x 16 cm
Dimensions with frame: 25 x 28 cm
Signed at the bottom right.
The work is housed in an exclusive handmade frame and has recently been fitted with museum glass.
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, celebrating its 85th anniversary year. Furthermore we make use of restorers from the trade association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, of course we would be happy to hear from you.
