This artwork is Madonna, painted by the Norwegian expressionist Edvard Munch between 1894 and 1895.
The painting is an important example of Symbolism and a precursor to Expressionism.
Contrary to traditional religious images, Munch portrays the Madonna here as a femme fatale.
The original oil painting is housed in the Munch Museum in Oslo.
Munch was known for his intense depiction of psychological themes such as love, loneliness and death.
