Description from the seller
Overview
This is a highly distinctive SPERA open-face pocket watch whose main attraction lies in its richly decorated dial and equally detailed pastoral case back. The combination of black Roman numerals, red 24-hour markings, floral painting, and cattle scenes gives the watch a strong folk-art character and excellent visual presence. Together with the included metal chain, it forms a display-friendly and very collectible set, with the greatest appeal coming from the fact that both the dial and the back tell the same rural pastoral story.
Technical and condition details
Open-face mechanical pocket watch with crown winding and subsidiary seconds. Signed SPERA on the dial, with INCABLOC also present. The movement is marked 17 Jewels Swiss.
The dial decoration is the key feature of this watch. The main hour display uses black Roman numerals, while a red 13 to 24 hour scale is placed between them. Around the edge runs a painted floral border with pink roses, blue flowers, and green foliage. Above 12 there is a cow motif, and the central upper part of the dial shows a pastoral scene with two standing figures and cattle between them, giving the watch a clear rural storytelling character. Above the subsidiary seconds is a floral cartouche, and near 6 there is another cattle motif, creating a balanced decorative composition from top to bottom.
The back cover is equally notable, engraved with a detailed countryside relief scene showing cattle drinking from a trough, with a farmhouse, tall trees, a road, and figures in the background. It is far more than a standard plain back and adds strong narrative and display appeal.
A metal pocket watch chain is included in the lot and should be regarded as part of the set.
Diameter approximately 52.57 mm. Weight approximately 97.48 g.
Running when tested. No long-term accuracy test has been performed.
Visible age-related wear is present, including light scratches, edge wear, surface wear to the case and chain, and signs of use to the crystal. The decorative effect remains very attractive overall. Please study the photographs carefully for condition details.
