Description from the seller
Jean-Jacques Massou - Poppy Solitaire 1
Digital print - Hand-signed - limited to 50 - no. 1 - 2020
I took this photo in spring 2020 during the confinement in my village with a Nikon D600 and a Sigma 28-200 mm super-zoom lens.
The inspiration for this work comes from the ephemeral beauty of nature and the singularity that can emerge within a crowd. The image evokes a field of newborn wheat, where the dominance of green and the silky texture of the ears promise a future harvest. In the midst of this vegetal uniformity, a bright red poppy catches the eye, symbolizing life, passion, and individuality. It is the striking contrast between overwhelming gentleness and the luminous touch that dictated the composition.
I would like viewers to feel a sense of calm and contemplation in the face of nature’s beauty. I hope they will be touched by the quiet strength of this green field and that the poppy will remind them of the importance of every individual, even within a crowd. The image is an invitation to appreciate details, beauty in the ordinary, and the resilience of life that always finds a way to express itself. It is also a reflection on fragility and ephemeral beauty, represented by the delicacy of the poppy.
The choice of photography as a medium is natural for capturing light and texture realistically. The subject, a barley field with a poppy, was chosen for its symbolic and aesthetic potential. Barley represents maturity, growth, and abundance, while the poppy embodies vitality and ephemeral beauty. The adopted style, with a soft focus and natural light, aims to enhance texture and vibrant colours, creating a dreamlike and poetic atmosphere. The goal was to create an image that is both evocative and aesthetically pleasing, inviting reverie and reflection.
The print was made on high-quality Hahnemühle Photo Pearl paper with a format of 48.3 x 32.9 cm, producing a high-quality image. This work is sold with an authenticity certificate bearing the edition number (limited to 50) and hand-signed by the photographer.
Jean-Jacques Massou, a self-taught photographer with a passionate drive, works mainly in analog and digital photography, sometimes enriched by digital painting software. He elevates nature and landscapes through a meticulous aesthetic pursuit where composition, the poetry of colours, and graphic design mingle delicately in his images. His mixed technique, at the border between photography and painting, reveals the ephemeral beauty of hidden treasures in the world. With emotion and humility, he conveys the wonder before the fragile splendor of nature and the urgency of its preservation."
