Reflets dans le sous-bois, an oil painting by École espagnole (XX) from Spain, dated to 1980–1990 in the post-impressionist style, 68 cm high by 79 cm wide, sold with frame by Galería.
Description from the seller
This attractive oil landscape composition, attributed to the Spanish school of the 20th century, depicts a serene riverside scene surrounded by slender trees, with a sheet of water in the foreground that captures the reflections of the forest and the light from the background.
The work stands out for its delicate and evocative atmosphere, built through a balanced composition in which vertical trunks organize the space and guide the eye toward a central area of greater luminosity. The course of the water, treated with broken reflections and soft tonal nuances, adds depth and dynamism to the scene, reinforcing the sense of calm and natural stillness.
From a stylistic standpoint, the painting sits within a post-Impressionist–sensitive landscape tradition, where the artist prioritizes atmosphere, the vibration of light, and the general harmony of the whole over meticulous description. The brushwork is free and confident, especially evident in the vegetation, the banks, and the reflections on the water, while the palette combines greens, ochres, grays, whites, and reddish touches that enrich the visual reading of the landscape.
Particularly successful is the contrast between the shadowy areas of the foreground and the vaporous luminosity of the background, a device that gives the scene a nearly poetic quality. The result is an image with strong decorative power, very suitable for those who value 20th-century landscape painting and works with serene, naturalistic atmosphere.
The work presents a notable balance between structure, light, and color, within a modern landscape tradition that continues the sensitive observation of the natural surroundings with an agile and expressive pictorial language.
