Two embroidered silk paintings in late Rococo decorative style, dating to 1850–1900, housed in an original gilt oval frame.
Description from the seller
Elegant embroidered paintings on silk, datable to between the late 18th and early 19th centuries, belonging to the refined tradition of decorative arts with a late Rococo taste, highly valued in European aristocratic circles.
The two compositions depict two noble couples caught in a moment of intimate complicity, immersed in a delicate landscape setting. The figures, dressed in sumptuous garments typical of 18th-century fashion, are rendered with great grace and compositional balance, privileging the elegance of the gesture and the sweetness of the expression rather than explicit narrative.
The two works are executed with mixed technique on silk:
the figures and the landscape are hand-painted, with fine coloristic finesse and skillful modulation of shadows;
the clothing is enriched with decorative embroidery and gilded details, which confer luminosity and preciousness to the scene; the upper part of the composition is adorned with a silk floral embroidery in light relief, executed with great expertise, creating an effect of depth and movement.
The overall piece fully expresses the taste of 18th-century gallant scenes, inspired by French Rococo painting, evoking elegant, intimate, and poetic atmospheres, intended for a cultured and refined audience.
The two works are enclosed in a precious gilded oval frame, original to the period, finely worked, which enhances the composition and underscores its decorative and collectible character. The back preserves ancient materials and fittings, further confirmation of authenticity and the period of realization.
The works are presented in good preservation, considering the extremely delicate nature of the silk support. There are slight signs of time, consistent with the age, which do not compromise readability nor the overall elegance of the work, but rather enhance its historical charm (see photos that are an integral part of the description).
