The Blacksmith, an oil painting on canvas by Austrian artist Hermann Kern (1838–1912) from the 19th century, measuring 66 cm by 55.5 cm, signed hand signed and dated 1871, sold with frame in good condition.

Here we have a relined oil on canvas by Austrian artist Hermann Kern 1838-1912. The painting depicts a blacksmith hard at work as he sweats over the hot ashes nearby. The painting is signed lower right Kern H and faintly dated 1871? A wonderful oil painting that would grace any wall in your home.
Biography
Hermann Armin von Kern (1838–1912) was an academic painter, one of the most popular Austrian genre painters of his time and a court painter at the court of Franz Josef I in Vienna. Kern began his artistic training at the age of 16 in Levoča under Theo Böhm. He went to Prague in 1854, where he studied under J.B. Klemens, and then attended the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where he was instructed by C. Rahl. In 1867 he studied in Düsseldorf, and in 1870 he studied under Karl von Piloty at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he befriended Franz von Defregger.
The painting is in good condition and comes framed which has signs of wear especially the lower area. Please view the photographs as part of the description. Please note the frame is a gift and no compensation given if damaged in transit.
