The drawings by Rein Dool form an important part of his oeuvre and showcase his characteristic style well. They often combine refined line work with expressive simplicity, with human figures, portraits and everyday scenes central. His drawings are both studies for paintings and standalone works, often in ink, pencil or watercolor, where he subtly plays with light, shadow and contours.
Rein Dool is a Dutch artist, born in 1933 in Leiden, known for his versatile body of work including paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics and sculpture. His career began in the fifties and continues to this day, producing both figurative and abstract works with a refined and expressive style. Dool’s work frequently focuses on human figures and portraits, but he also experiments with different techniques and media. In addition to his artistic practice, he taught at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in ’s-Hertogenbosch. His work is included in major collections, such as the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Dordrechts Museum, and he has received recognitions such as the Jeanne Oosting Prize. With a long and active career, Rein Dool is regarded as an influential figure in the Dutch art world.
