Rein Dool’s watercolors reveal his mastery of color and transparency. With light, flowing brushstrokes he creates intimate portraits, human figures, and everyday scenes, often with minimal details but maximal expression. They radiate atmosphere and immediacy and can be found in collections such as the Rijksmuseum and the Dordrechts Museum.
Rein Dool is a Dutch artist, born in 1933 in Leiden, known for his versatile oeuvre of paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics, and sculpture. His career began in the fifties and continues to this day, making both figurative and abstract works with a refined and expressive style. Dool’s work often focuses on human figures and portraits, but he also experiments with different techniques and media. In addition to his artistic practice, he taught at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in ’s-Hertogenbosch. His work is included in major collections, such as the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Dordrechts Museum, and he has received recognition with prizes such as the Jeanne Oosting Prize. With a long and active career, Rein Dool is regarded as an influential figure in the Dutch art world.
