Description from the seller

Extraordinary portfolio from Electa Editrice dedicated to Nadar, 1979, format 30 x 40 cm. 12 photogravures in pristine condition, protected by tissue paper, in excellent shape, band and cover with very slight signs at the corners. Collectors’ portfolio, numbered edition, 552/1000

Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, known as Nadar (Paris, 1820 – Paris, 1910)
Caricaturist, writer, journalist, photographer, pioneer of flight, he animated the Parisian bohemia and the intellectual milieu of his era, which was at the heart of the debate about the true role of photography in relation to the other arts. Among the earliest art photographers, he left portraits of dazzling intensity and value of all the leading figures of France. Thus Nadar resolved the question of whether the new medium was artistic or not, precisely thanks to a photographic genre destined to become commercial with the advent of cartes de visite and the consequent mass-produced portraiture.
