Description from the seller
LA MIRADA is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. In this work, it is a portrait built from the tension between presence and thought. The female figure, resting on her hand, seems suspended in a moment of introspection, where the contained gesture and the direction of the eyes suggest a story that is not fully revealed.
The composition places the protagonist in an intimate, almost stage-like setting: a table with a glass of wine, small plates and remnants of a recent action that has already finished or is about to do so. This everyday context contrasts with the emotional intensity of the face, turning the scene into something more than a simple domestic moment. The background, vibrant and organic, unfolds like a fabric of vegetal and gestural shapes that envelop the figure without distracting her. The colors —reds, blues and greens— dialogue with each other creating a dynamic atmosphere, while the deep black of the attire anchors the composition and directs attention toward the face and hands.
The brushstroke, free and expressive, reinforces the contemporary character of the work. It does not seek academic precision, but emotion through color and gesture. The face, more defined, acts as the emotional core, where all the tension of the scene concentrates.
LA MIRADA is, in essence, a psychological portrait. A pause charged with meaning, where the spectator not only observes, but is observed. A painting that inhabits that subtle space between what is visible and what remains hidden.
