Waterman Ideal Nº 7 fountain pen, made in the United States in the first half of the 20th century, in celluloid with a red ripple ebonite finish, 14K nib, 14.2 cm long and 1.2 cm in diameter, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
A0000001974
Excellent example showing very noteworthy preservation for a Waterman No. 7 original from the late 1920s – early 1930s.
The Red Ripple black-ebonite finish maintains excellent definition of the red/black grain, with uniform shine and well-preserved chromatic depth. No severe discolorations, structural oxidations, or faded areas due to prolonged exposure to strong light are observed. The material retains character and presence, something especially valued in this model.
The cap is structurally solid, with firm threads and proper closure. The inscription of the number “7” on the cap band is visible and well defined. The identifying color point at the end of the cap remains present.
The metal elements (clip, lever, and rings) show wear consistent with age: slight superficial loss of plating at points of friction and micro signs of use, without deformations or dents. The clip maintains proper tension and correct alignment.
The filling lever works correctly. The internal mechanism has been checked and responds normally (a periodic inspection is always recommended for pieces this old if they are to be used regularly).
The original Waterman’s Ideal 14K nib preserves its geometry, with no cracks or visible repairs. The claws are well aligned and the iridium shows moderate and uniform wear, in line with historical use. The flow is steady and the writing feel is correct for its type.
Overall, this is an authentic piece, structurally solid and in an overall condition above average for this model, especially considering the sensitivity of the ripple-ebonite to the passage of time.
It will be shipped in a courtesy box for proper conservation.
Nice auction!
