Alessandro Gandolfi - Silence #1

Anechoic, from the Greek “devoid of echo”: for this reason entering the Anechoic Chamber of the University of Ferrara, in Italy, is a mystical experience. Sound does not propagate, you gradually lose your balance and from initial euphoria you move to a disturbing feeling of disorientation. Perhaps the ideal condition for performing a concert, as violinist Martina Monti is doing. This photograph comes from a photographic project devoted to silence and has been published in several outlets, from the Italian La Repubblica to the French Revue XXI up to National Geographic Italia, where it became the cover image of issue 5/2020.

The image is signed on the back and measures 30x40 cm. It is printed in a limited edition (25 copies) on Hahnemühle Baryta FB 350 g paper and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Alessandro Gandolfi is an Italian professional photographer and journalist, co-founder of the Parallelozero agency. Interested in telling the small and large changes of contemporary society, his reports have appeared in publications around the world and have been shown in various international photography exhibitions and festivals. He has earned international recognitions such as the Sony World Photography Award, the NPPA Best of Photojournalism, the POY - Pictures of the Year, and the PDN.
