AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Sea chest or rather a paymaster's chest for the armies of the 17th or 18th century. It is of very fine quality, with Renaissance-style ironwork featuring ornaments and figures etched by etching. Very good quality of ironwork and lockwork including 12 hinges, in perfect condition of preservation and operation.

This chest was bought in 1900 by my grandfather, Jules Jaubert, who was municipal treasurer in Clermont-Ferrand. My mother, Lily Jaubert, then inherited it, and then I myself in 1964. The attached photo was taken in Aydat in the Puy-de-Dôme. It shows Jules Jaubert, my grandfather, his wife Emilie Jaubert, his sister Valentine Beynié, and my mother who was 4 years old at the time.
