Description from the seller
A0000003654
The Montblanc Simplo No. 2 fountain pen is presented in overall very good condition, especially noteworthy considering its age, corresponding roughly to the 1920s.
The body, made of red hard rubber (ebonite), maintains a very attractive and uniform color, with a deep coral hue that preserves strong visual presence. The surface shows light signs of use typical of the passage of time, such as small micro-scratches and a soft natural patina in some areas, without structural cracks or deformations. The material preserves its integrity and stability, something particularly noteworthy in pieces from this period.
The black ebonite cap is well preserved, with a proper snap when closing. The early Montblanc emblem at the top remains present and readable, showing only slight wear consistent with its age. At the end caps, the marked “2” is clearly visible, corresponding to the model size.
The gold-plated clip engraved “Montblanc Simplo” maintains good engraving definition and presents a soft patina in the gold, typical of original pieces from this era. The decorative cap rings likewise retain good presence, with light, uniform wear that does not affect its aesthetics or integrity.
The body inscriptions, “Original – Montblanc” with the mountain logo, remain visible and well preserved, adding an appealing historical character to the piece.
The original 14-karat (A. Karat) gold nib with marking No. 2 and EF (Extra Fine) point is correctly aligned and in good structural condition. The feed shows good preservation and the set is presented as functional. As is customary in Collecting Legacy, the fountain pen has been checked and tested, ensuring proper operation.
Overall, this is a very well-preserved specimen for its age, with wear consistent with nearly a century of history and with all the main original elements, making it especially attractive for both collection and use.
Conservation recommendations
To preserve this fountain pen in optimal condition, it is recommended to use high-quality inks specific for fountain pens, avoiding pigmented inks or those with particulate matter. If not used for an extended period, it should be cleaned with warm water, dried carefully before storage, and kept in a dry place, protected from direct light and extreme temperatures. The mechanism should be operated gently at all times to ensure its durability.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper conservation.
Happy bidding!
