Description from the seller
This painting is executed in mixed technique and made by Robbert Fortgens (1960). Fortgens was born in Utrecht, studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and currently lives and works in Antwerp. In his early body of work he was inspired by photographic realism, but after seeing the work of Willem de Kooning in 1988 he made a radical artistic turn toward abstract expressionism. Characteristic of his mature work is the merging of painting and photography: two seemingly opposing disciplines that he unites in one visual language. By playing with paint, photography and layering, Fortgens explores the tension between perception and imagination, resulting in a rich, multi-layered and contemporary oeuvre.
