Antoni (Antonio) Vidal Rolland was a Catalan figurative painter active in the first half and mid-20th century, specializing in still lifes, flowers, fruits, and genre scenes.
Basic biographical data:
Born: Barcelona, 1889.
Died: 1970.
Education:
He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona, where he was a pupil of Professor Ruiz, father of Pablo Picasso, which links him to the Barcelona academic tradition of the late 19th century.
Work and themes:
He specialized in still lifes and figures, with frequent floral and fruit motifs (peaches, etc.), within a costumbrist and decorative line highly valued in the Catalan market.
He also painted oil portraits on panel (táblex), usually signed in the lower right corner.
He participated in numerous Barcelona-based, national and international competitions, indicating some exposure in life, though he did not reach great museum fame.
