The 256 MB magneto-optical disk was one of the most revolutionary features of the NeXT computer and NeXTcube. Steve Jobs introduced it in 1988 as "the floppy disk of the 90s" – a rewritable, robust removable drive with an enormous capacity for its time, on which the complete operating system NeXTSTEP plus extensive data could fit. It allowed users to transport their entire digital working environment easily from one NeXT system to another.

• Capacity: 256 MB (double-sided)
• Format: 5.25-inch Magneto-Optical Cartridge (MO disk)
• Compatible with the original NeXT Optical Drive (Canon-based, NeXT N3000 series)
