AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

With Medusa, Captain Niglo explores an organic, aquatic imaginary where form floats between natural reality and symbolic vision. The silhouette of the jellyfish, recognizable yet stylized, asserts itself through its verticality and its fluidity, occupying the pictorial space with an almost hypnotic elegance.

The composition plays on a strong contrast between the dark background, with purplish, misty hues, and the central figure in turquoise and emerald tones. This chromatic choice creates an impression of luminescence, as if the jellyfish itself radiates its own light, suspended in an undefined environment. The tentacles, drawn in sinuous, nerve-like lines, evoke movement, fragility, and latent energy.

The pictorial matter is worked with relief, notably on the umbrella, reinforcing the physical presence of the work. The outlined drawing, almost graphic, structures the form while leaving room for a free gesture, a hallmark of an intuitive and contemporary practice. Medusa thus oscillates between poetic figuration and expressive abstraction.

Through its elongated vertical format (60 × 30 cm), the work heightens the sense of a slow, silent descent, inviting the eye to follow the filaments down to the bottom of the canvas. Signed Captain Niglo, Medusa places itself in a research on living beings, movement, and transformation, offering an aesthetically and contemplatively rich reading.

Jeremy Bouleau alias "Captain Niglo", born in Reims in 1982. A tag and graffiti enthusiast since adolescence and inspired by artists such as Trane, Djuk, JonOne, Seen, Cope2 and many others like Salvador Dali and Frida Kahlo, he emerged in 1999 with markers in his pocket. Then in 2000, he took markers and spray cans in hand in a vandalistic fashion. Caught in the act in 2006 with his aliases Cuni and Némar, he largely abandoned vandalism for legal murals a few years later on various supports. A few murals are visible in the Ardennes (08) such as Vouziers, Rethel, but also in Marne (51), notably in Reims and Chalons-en-Champagne. “Niglo” is the hedgehog in Romani. Having uncles who ran garages, some friends gave him the nickname Niglo, and he added Captain as a pun like the Captain Iglo fish sticks. His style is recognizable, often marked by trembling strokes with small dots. Also his character with a beard shaped like a parchment and a crown-shaped cap. Always seeking new techniques and supports, he also practices tattooing in 2017 and opens his studio-gallery in Attigny (08). Some artists like Kery James or La Bajon already own Captain Niglo works; why not you.
