Biography of Hoang Anh.
Born in 1984 in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam Lives and works in Hanoi
Originally from Thanh Hoa province, located 150 km south of Hanoi, Hoang Anh belongs to that pivotal generation of Vietnamese artists (the "8x" generation) who combine cultural heritage and contemporary abstraction. A graduate of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, he made a mark on Hanoi's art scene with a bold approach to matter and color.
Graduated from the Artistic Talent stream (promotion 13) at the Thanh Hoa College of Culture and Arts
Graduated from the Painting Department (promotion 48) of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts
Style and Artistic Approach
Hoang Anh's work is distinguished by intense exploration of texture and movement. Although he explores varied themes such as landscapes, nature, and the female figure, it is in abstraction that he reveals his full expressive power:
• The energy of gesture: A devotee of oil painting and acrylic, he frequently uses the palette knife to apply color in vigorous horizontal strokes. This gesture creates a nearly musical rhythm on the canvas.
• Chromatic contrasts: His work plays on the opposition between often neutral backgrounds (urban grays, textured whites) and bursts of primary colors — ardent reds, solar yellows, and deep blues — that seem to spring from the surface.
• Lyric abstraction: His compositions do not seek to reproduce reality, but to capture its emotional essence. His canvases often evoke ephemeral phenomena: the reflection of light on water, the vibration of heat, or the bustle of a metropolis in transformation.
Exhibitions and Recognition
Active and recognized artist, Hoang Anh regularly exhibits in Hanoi's prestigious galleries and within national art collectives. His works are part of many private collections, both in Vietnam and internationally, captivating with their ability to translate an Eastern sensibility into a universal, modern language.
"Painting is, for me, a breath, a way to fix the invisible energy that surrounds us." — Hoang Anh
