Khordjin - Wool - Azerbaijan - Early 20th century

Very decorative open bag (khordjin) adorned with 3 rows of braids.
The beautiful Sumak technique, used for the motifs, points to a highly accomplished craftsmanship.
On the back side one sees several decorative motifs (goats).
The motifs are typical of the Shahsavangroup.
All colors are vegetable-dyed.
The wool used is reclaimed old wool. Based on the wool used, the fabric would be over 100 years old.
It is a very beautiful example of reusing old wool that is processed into a fabric that now has a different function, namely decoration.
