Description from the seller
The yacht
The painting entitled The Yacht depicts two female figures seated in front of the sea in a very simple composition focused more on the figures than on the environment. The space is divided horizontally between sky and sea with a very sharp horizon line, while the figures occupy almost the entire foreground and reduce the depth of the scene. The woman on the left is naked, seated with the body slightly inclined and the torso rotated, while the woman on the right wears a swimsuit and leans toward her, creating a diagonal line that connects the two figures. Both wear sunglasses, which hides their gaze and creates a certain emotional distance between them and also between them and the viewer. Color is very important in the painting: the sea is painted with a deep, fairly uniform and cool blue, while the bodies are built with warm colors—orange, pink, and browns—creating a strong contrast between warm and cold. The painting has a tactile quality, with visible brushstrokes; it does not seek photographic realism but a more expressive and immediate representation. The bodies are not idealized but appear real, heavy, and constructed more from color than from drawing. The title The Yacht suggests a luxury and vacation environment, but in reality the yacht is not visible, which makes the title more symbolic than descriptive, as if the scene wanted to speak not so much of a boat but of a certain lifestyle or social condition. The relationship between the two figures is not clear; they do not look directly at each other, and the dressed figure seems to be observing the body of the other, creating a slightly ambiguous situation between intimacy, confrontation, and distance. The sea behind them is calm, almost motionless, and there is no movement. This contributes to a sense of suspension and silence, as if the scene were frozen in time. Overall, the painting seems to speak about the body, the relationship between people, and perhaps also loneliness or distance that can exist even in a situation of well-being and vacation, as the title suggests: The Yacht. Yet instead of festivity or movement, we find stillness, silence, and a relationship between the two figures that remains open and not completely explained.
