DESCRIPTION :
The museum director and art historian Dr. Friedhelm Häring describes the pictorial universe of Ralf Altrieth as follows:
"There is a lot of poetry in this painting, as in all the works of this artist. They are populated with narrative codes and fantastical tales. In that sense, Ralf Altrieth’s pictorial poems are a pure childish chant... But the most astonishing thing that manifests in these canvases is a communicative tenderness for the states of mind of the human being."
In his paintings, Ralf Altrieth lets shapes emerge and transform with the gesture, in a free and spontaneous movement. The figures often appear fleetingly, as if hesitating between being and disappearing.
The image forms through superimpositions; the elements seem to float, respond to each other, entwine, creating a living and open visual space.
The title (here: 'L’azuré') is usually added afterwards. It is meant to suggest a thread, a narrative dimension, poetic or sometimes simply humorous, never imprisoning the image in a single interpretation.
An expressive work that immediately catches the eye and gradually reveals all its richness.

He lives and works today in the south of France.
