Biography of painter Nguyen Robert, born 1958.

Born in 1958 in Ben Tre, an authentic village nestled in the heart of the Mekong Delta, Nguyen Robert is a Franco-Vietnamese artist whose work is distinguished by a singular fusion between Asian traditions and Western artistic influences. From a young age, he was fascinated by the rural architecture of his environment, the lines of traditional houses, the volumes of floating markets, the shadows cast by water palms — all elements that would become the basis of his visual language.

Having always been based in his native region, Nguyen Robert developed, over decades, a deeply contemporary, modern, and decidedly architectural style. His paintings explore structures, lines, urban rhythms, and geometric abstraction, while maintaining a poetic sensibility rooted in Vietnamese culture.

His dual heritage, Franco-Vietnamese, enriches his approach: he borrows from the West the rigor of modern compositions and the boldness of contrasts, while his Vietnamese soul infuses softness, spirituality, and fluidity into his works. The result is a pictorial universe where modernity meets timelessness, where geometry dialogues with light, creating paintings of great visual impact.

Renowned for his ability to transform everyday life into abstract landscapes, Nguyen Robert is today regarded as one of the distinctive voices in the Mekong Delta’s contemporary painting.
