Man Ray's Cadeau, a 1974 mixed-media Dada sculpture, is hand signed and numbered 2363/5000, in excellent condition, measuring 16.5 × 10 cm and weighing 2 kg, produced in Italy as a limited edition.
Description from the seller
A rare, museum-quality edition of the iconic Dadaist object Cadeau by the American artist Man Ray (1890–1976), issued in a limited edition of 5,000. This work is hand-signed and numbered ‘2363/5000’ by the artist and was published in 1974 under the direction of Luciano Anselmino Editore, Turin. Originally conceived in 1921, this multiple was re-issued in 1974 as a sculptural edition, preserving the spirit of the original piece.
It features a flat iron with a row of nails affixed to its soleplate, transforming a mundane household item into a provocative piece of art. This work exemplifies Man Ray’s exploration of surrealism and the subversion of everyday objects.
Complete with the original protective Styrofoam box, numbered card, and accompanying printed brochure detailing the artwork.
Man Ray—born Emmanuel Radnitzky—was a pioneering figure in the early 20th-century avant-garde. Though American-born, he spent the majority of his career in Paris, working across a wide range of media including photography, painting, and sculpture. While loosely affiliated with the Dada and Surrealist movements, his work consistently challenged boundaries and defied easy categorisation.
