Terras is a 19th‑century oil painting on panel by Sieger Baukema, in the impressionist style from the Netherlands, depicting a cityscape, and sold with its frame.
Description from the seller
This oil on panel painting is by Sieger Baukema. He trained at the Academy for Fine Arts and Design ‘Minerva’ in Groningen, where he studied under, among others, Adolf le Comte, Johannes Henderikus Egenberger and Paul Tetar van Elven. He also received guidance from Théophile de Bock.
Baukema worked as a painter and draftsman and was active as a teacher until 1877. From 1898 he was employed as a lecturer at the Academy of Art Practice in Arnhem. Among his pupils were Wijnanda Johanna Dekker, Tamine Groeneveld, Anton Jakma, Elisabeth Mathilde Keer, Louis de Leeuw, Arend Jan Nieuwenhuis, Fokke Tadema, Paul van der Ven, Henri Verstijnen and Willem Jan Willemsen. He lived and worked in Oudemirdum, Deventer, Katwijk aan Zee, Heelsum and Arnhem. Baukema was married to the painter Maria Johanna Philipse. In his work he mainly focused on flowers, landscapes and portraits.
