Sheet size 50 x 70 cm
Piero Dorazio is renowned for his gestural and atmospheric paintings of grids, blurred with fluid and pulsating brushstrokes in color and texture.
Born in Rome in 1927, he formally studied painting and classical drawing, followed by architecture; from the late forties, his presence in artistic and literary circles determined the influence of Russian Suprematism, Constructivism, the Paris School, surrealist biomorphism, and, above all, Italian Futurism: Dorazio was deeply influenced by Giacomo Balla.
In the late fifties Dorazio produced monochrome painted surfaces whose surfaces consist of intertwined threads of color, and they are compared to "a visible net." As Dorazio's work progressed, he continued his linear and cross-hatched paintings with drawings that varied in density and complexity but were consistently concerned with clarity.
