Artist

The French artist Jo y Posso lives in Pigalle, just a stone's throw from the Moulin Rouge

For 20 years, she worked in fashion as a stylist, and spends the rest of her time creating collages and lighting fixtures. She cuts up her art books to create encounters between the great classical figures and the icons of pop art, thus telling sensual, funny, and feminist stories. More recently, Jo y Posso has turned to mixed media to integrate street art influences into her work.

In her studio in Pigalle, Jo y Posso paints the woman in all her states; between strength and vulnerability, humor and sensuality. These icons borrowed as much from classical art as from pop culture give a plural image of the woman, yet always liberated from her. At the heart of this work, resolutely pop and street, writing also holds a predominant place; excerpts from literary texts, poems, or songs occupy her canvases like landscapes. And it is in these words that you must come to find all the meaning
