Description from the seller

This is a statue of Shiva as Nataraja, one of the best-known depictions in Hindu art.

What you see
• The dancing figure: Shiva performs the Cosmic Dance (Tandava), symbolizing the cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction of the universe.
• Multiple arms: Each hand has a meaning, such as protection, creation, and liberation.
• The ring of fire: Represents the universe and the eternal cycle of time.
• Raised leg: Symbolizes liberation and spiritual uplift.
• Figure under the foot: This is a demon (Apasmara), representing ignorance. Shiva overcomes it by dancing on it.

Material and style

The statue appears to be made of bronze or brass and is inspired by traditional South Indian art (especially the Chola style). Such statues are often used as decoration or for religious purposes.
