This is an expressive and tactile floral still life characteristic of Eastern Europe in the second half of the twentieth century
Colors with bright and vivid tones. Use of scrapes and engravings probably made with the handle of the brush to give the image of an instinctive and immediate painting.
Brief biography of the Artist:
Ivan Kurach was born March 26, 1909 in Serdyca, near Lviv (today in Ukraine), and died in January 1968.
He trained artistically in several important European schools:
Academies of Lviv, Warsaw and Berlin
He participated in exhibitions in cities such as Vienna, Berlin and Warsaw
The Italian period
In the 1930s he moved to Italy, where he developed much of his career:
Studied in Rome with Ferruccio Ferrazzi
Continued in Milan at the Brera Academy with Giuseppe Palanti
Became an Italian citizen in 1936
Subsequently taught at Brera
The war and personal life
During World War II:
He participated in the Russian campaign as a soldier
His art is deeply marked by the war experience and the nostalgia of his homeland
Many of his exhibitions in the 1940s were dedicated to:
The memory of family members victims of Stalinist repression
To his homeland, Ukraine
