HERMÈS SCARF 'LEATHER OF THE DESERT'.
Artist: Created by Françoise de la Perrière.
Subject: The design draws inspiration from the leather craftsmanship of the nomadic peoples of the Sahara, such as the Tuaregs of Hoggar and the Berbers.
Composition: A Tuareg rider on his dromedary occupies the center of the square, surrounded by traditional leather objects such as purses/besaces, saddlebags and ornaments. These elements illustrate the varied craftsmanship, consisting of carving, dyeing and painting the hides of goats and camels.
History: This model was first issued in 1988 and reissued in 1993.
