Taf Wallet (1902-2001)
Taf Wallet (real name Gustave Wallet), born in La Louvière on November 24, 1902 and died in Schaerbeek on December 1, 2001, is a Belgian painter, engraver, mosaicist and stained-glass artist of mixed Walloon and Flemish heritage. He was a friend of Paul Delvaux.

Biography
Gustave Fernand Hector Wallet, born in La Louvière on November 24, 1902, is the son of Fernand Wallet, a butcher, and his wife Ida Deneyer[1].

He first studied wood and marble at the La Louvière Industrial School (1916-1917). He perfected his craft at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Mons under Alfred Duriau and Émile Motte (1920-1922) as well as at the Brussels Academy under Constant Montald, Jean Delville and Émile Fabry (1922-1926). He settled in Schaerbeek in 1923. The Godecharle Prize (1928) allowed him to visit France and Italy in 1930.

In 1933, the artist moved to Saint-Idesbald and his work was deeply influenced by the sea. He won the Hainaut Prize (1934).

He mainly creates clear, robust landscapes, seascapes, marine paintings, and still lifes. Initially in a realistic style, but later, after World War II, more impressionist with a small hint of Ensor. Later, he paid more attention to composition, stylization and the development of his subjects.

His works express poetry, joie de vivre and optimism. The artist sought to capture the special light of the coast in his paintings. He developed his own luminism, a new form of pointillism comparable to Georges Seurat or Paul Signac in neo-impressionism.

Taf Wallet has an eye for color, and from his use emanates a great deal of emotion. He preferentially uses certain nuances of tones, such as blues, yellows, greens and reds.

In 1947, he became a professor of engraving and in 1959 professor of landscape painting at the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp.

Co-founder of the Nervia group, administrative member of the Alliance Française, member of the Steering Committee of the National Council of Visual Arts and member of the Belgian Society of Seascape Painters, member of the Circles Bon Vouloir, The Friends of Art, The Friends of Hainaut.
