Description from the seller
Basile Sepulchre (Belgian, contemporary)
“Family Dinner” – 2018
Original artwork by Belgian artist Basile Sepulchre, created in 2018. Executed in acrylic on panel, this piece reflects the artist’s raw and expressive visual language, situated between Art Brut, Neo-Expressionism and contemporary urban art.
The composition presents a dense and fragmented scene populated by multiple stylized figures, arranged like a distorted narrative tableau. Faces with exaggerated features, intense gazes and symbolic elements coexist with handwritten texts, numbers and graphic signs, creating a layered and almost chaotic visual structure.
Through this “family dinner” setting, the artist explores themes of social tension, identity, illusion and human relationships, with phrases such as “Everything is fake”, “You can only trust yourself” or “Money man” reinforcing a critical and introspective dimension. The limited palette—dominated by grey, red, black and yellow—enhances the emotional intensity and coherence of the composition.
The work stands out for its richness of detail and the multiplicity of reading levels, inviting the viewer to continuously discover new elements.
