Description from the seller
"San Paolo Eremita Contaminato" (1995)
Oil on canvas - 140 x 100 cm - Corrente del Metropolismo
This imposing work by Antonio Sciacca, dated 1995 and belonging to Metropolismo, is a powerful fusion between sacred iconography and contemporary culture.
The painting depicts Saint Paul the Hermit with dramatic realism: the saint is portrayed in spiritual ecstasy, with a flowing beard and gaze turned to the sky. The mystical atmosphere, intensified by the subdued light, is immediately "contaminated" by anachronistic elements, typical of Metropolismo.
Elements of Contamination:
Blue Rosary: Instead of the traditional rosary, the saint holds a necklace of electric blue, glossy pearls, symbolizing a modern aesthetic and consumerism that intrudes into the sacred.
Stylized Drops: The upper part is dotted with deep blue drops with an almost plastic rendering, a pop element that contrasts with the figurative scene.
On the left, the cross is glimpsed, while at the top right appears the crow that carries the bread, elements redesigned through a contemporary sensibility.
Sciacca uses his figurative mastery to explore how religious archetypes are filtered and reworked by metropolitan and mediated society. The work is a significant example of his Metropolista period.
The work, recognized and appreciated internationally, is complete with an authentic signature by the master on a photograph with the master beside the work, accompanied by a certificate of guarantee. It is offered with professional, tracked, and insured shipping.
